The current condition of the Preservation Ranch property

Five significant man-made problems have contributed to the current condition of the Property:

  • A legacy of haphazard, unplanned parcelization
  • A depleted timber resource.
  • A damaged fish and wildlife habitat
  • An excessive fire risk

Project Objectives

The Project’s objectives are:

  1. Create an integrated land use plan for the entire Property, and reduce resource fragmentation by reducing the number of parcels.
  2. Rehabilitate and protect the timber resource.
  3. Plant vineyards on limited and specific pockets of land with superb agricultural potential, to provide a satisfactory return on investment.
  4. Set aside a portion of the profits of the Project to fund public benefits.
  5. Provide economic benefits to Sonoma County, including increased tax revenues and local employment.

The Project’s objectives are...
The forest we seek to establish; large, uneven aged, widely spaced conifers.

Project objectives fit together and are interdependent from an environmental, planning and economic standpoint. Vineyards are the principal “economic engine” of the entire Project - the value gained from planting high quality vineyards finances both the restoration of timber with its resource and fish and wildlife benefits, as well as the creation of long-term timber and habitat preservation and protection measures.
